Patch Buying Guide
How to choose the right patch type for your artwork, garment and quantity — written as education, not a sales pitch.
Start with how the patch will be used
A patch on a plate carrier lives a different life to a patch on a fashion hoodie. Field gear needs molded rubber or heavy embroidery with Velcro; apparel branding can use TPU, leather or woven. Choose for service life first, appearance second.
Then look at the artwork
Flat, bordered colour fields mold well in PVC. Gradients, photographic imagery and fine illustration do not — those need hybrid UV printing, sublimation or woven construction. Small text under about 5mm is a woven or UV job, not an embroidery job.
Then quantity
Molded and leather products carry a one-time tooling cost, so the unit price drops sharply with volume. Sublimation and laser-cut products need no tooling, which makes them efficient for small, colourful runs. There is no fixed MOQ either way.

PVC/rubber: toughest, no gradients. Hybrid UV-PVC: rubber feel plus gradients. TPU: thin and flexible. Embroidery: traditional texture. Woven: highest detail, flat. Leather: premium heritage. Sublimation: full colour, no tooling. Laser cut: exact contours. Metal: formal and serialisable.
Questions worth asking any supplier
Who makes the tooling? Do I own it? Will a reorder be identical? Is there a physical sample before mass production? If a supplier cannot answer the first question, they are reselling someone else's factory.
